When AT&T was asked why the carrier took so long to respond to Android updates on their smartphones, CEO Randall Stephenson responded with “Google determines what platform gets the newest releases and when. A lot of times, that’s a negotiated arrangement and that’s something we work at hard.” This seems to imply that Google had the bigger hand as far as when a current update is pushed to devices. Naturally, this caused the search giant to be somewhat confused. And while we could naturally see why an update might take some time to reach carrier devices with different technologies, skins and other variables, we’re thinking AT&T is just looking to pass the buck here. With expected confusion, Google’s spokesperson responded with the following:
“frankly we don’t understand what he is referring to”
So, it doesn’t appear that the answer was ultimately answered here but rather deflected and passed on to Google’s court. We’ll see if someone from AT&T’s camp can clear the matter up for us and get the ball rolling on some of these devices still running Froyo.

The Huawei MediaPad 10 tablet is another device that was unveiled at Mobile World Congress a few months ago, but decided to take a little trip to the U.S. for a short visit at CTIA. It features a 10.1-inch (1920 x 1200) IPS display, Huawei’s own 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera with flash, 1.3MP front-facing camera, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, HSPA+ 21/42/84Mbps & LTE support, and Dolby surround sound. It is only 8.8mm thick and weighs 598g. It will be available internationally in the 3rd Quarter and as for the U.S., no details yet.

Huawei introduced the Ascend D Quad at Mobile World Congress a few months ago and it’s now stateside for a short visit at CTIA. We hope it will come back to the U.S. with a carrier, but no news yet. Specs include:
- Huawei K3V2 1.2GHz quad-core chipset and power management system
- 4.5-inch HD Touch-Enabled screen, supporting 720p resolution at 330 PPI
- 8MP BSI rear-facing camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera
- Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound with Audience earSmart™ voice technology
- Full HD (1080p) video recording
It will be available in quarter 3 globally, and yes, we’re hopeful for the U.S. Hit the break for the quick hands on
