New in the Android Market: Autodesk SketchBook Pro turns your Honeycomb tablet into a powerful digital sketchbook [Video]

Autodesk, Inc. is announcing the collaboration with Too Corporation to expand the color palette and sketching capabilities of the Autodesk SketchBook Pro for Mac and Windows destops, but more importantly, Sketchbook Pro just landed on the Android Market, and it is optimized for Honeycomb tablets.

Thanks to the artist-friendly user interface, users can draw and sketch more vivid, high-quality digital artwork using digital pencils, pens, markers, and airbrushes.

“With more and more creative professionals beginning to draw digitally, it is important for us to offer our high-quality illustrating tools for both the physical and digital canvas,” said Eiichi Ishii, Chairman at Too Corporation. “Teaming with Autodesk to bring Copic markers to the digital realm, and in a way that mirrors traditional materials, was a natural decision for us.”

Autodesk SketchBook Pro for Android is the third Autodesk app for Android . They released Autodesk SketchBook Mobile late last year, and AutoCAD WS was released in April.

Users with devices running Android 3.0 and above can download Autodesk SketchBook Pro from the Android Market for $4.99. Also available is Autodesk SketchBook Express for free.

Check out the video, full press release, and download links after the break.

Android-Controlled RC Car “Blue Drone” Launches for just $59

You may remember the remote-controlled AR Drone from several months ago, the relatively inexpensive helicopter capable of remote control via Android, iOS, Bada, and Symbian devices. That idea has sparked the interest of many such projects, including one such car – capable of control via (almost) every Android device on the market today.

The BlueDrone Team intends to release an RC car following the same model as the AR Drone: release a prototype, judge public interest, and manufacture accordingly. One can “buy in” for a small sum of $59, and add to the team’s production costs via Kickstarter. If the team’s goals are met, you’ll get a scale-model of the RC car, and the app needed to control it. If not, you’ll get your money back.

The RC uses class 2.1 bluetooth, so you’ll get roughly a 30ft range while lasting as long as three hours, full-throttle. This is an excellent price and a great deal, as the price will likely increase once this goes live (and it will). Check out the video after the break, and leave your comments below!

Amazon’s Daily Free App: Folder Organizer

Today’s free app at Amazon comes from Fabio Collini, developer of several notable folder management apps. Folder Organizer is the best management app this author has come across, filling many of the holes inherent in Android’s native folder implementation.

Its premise is simple: you give each app a label (or category), and create folders based on those labels. Thus, if you label an app “Games” and “Apps”, your app will show up in both of those folders. This makes for some excellent app organization capabilities, as well as some heavy customization of your desktop. Each folder can be configured with a different icon, apps are sorted alphabetically (or otherwise, if you so choose), and one can even create folders containing bookmarks, contacts, and more.

Our only gripe? The speed. There is noticable lag when opening /closing folders, force-closes every once in a while, and tagging could be a bit more intuitive (the inability to drag/drop into folders to tag them is a huge oversight).

That said, this writer would still recommend this app to anyone with a large library of apps to manage, or just looking to customize their icons.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro goes through FCC approval, launch imminent

It’s been some time since we had heard about the Xperia Pro back at MWC 2011, but we hadn’t forgotten about it. Now that parts for Sony Xperia devices are starting to get back to satisfactory levels after the Japan earthquake a few months back this year, Sony Ericsson is pushing ahead with the Xperia Pro release.

The Xperia Pro has been pushed through the FCC for approval, so a September launch date seems achievable and conceivable still. In the gallery below, you’ll see the Xperia Pro taken apart to pieces, showing us the underbelly of the Arc and PLAY’s younger family member… or is it ‘members’. Enjoy!
